WEBSITE RELAUNCH:
THE DEMPSTER HIGHWAY

It’s one of the most beautiful panoramic roads in the world: The Dempster Highway. Just the name itself stirs a sense of wanderlust. Once the path of the Gwich'in people and later a trail for dog sleds, the Dempster begins about 40 kilometers outside of Dawson City in the Yukon Territory. This all-weather gravel road stretches over 740 kilometers through majestic mountains, reaching well beyond the Arctic Circle towards the Arctic Ocean – specifically, to Inuvik in the Northwest Territories.

Driving the Dempster Highway offers one of the most exhilarating adventures in Canada’s North. It is North America’s ultimate road trip, taking travelers through a landscape that feels almost otherworldly. Along the way, you’ll encounter jagged mountain peaks, herds of caribou, the Arctic Circle, close-knit Indigenous communities, and the vast Mackenzie River. Adventure is calling!

With a fresh new look, the Dempster Highway website now offers a wealth of useful information, including sample itineraries, driving tips, road and weather conditions, overnight accommodations (from hotels to campgrounds), as well as insights into the arts, crafts, and local cuisine along the route – and much more.
