BLACHFORD LAKE LODGE

Blachford Lake Lodge, a popular destination among wilderness enthusiasts, reopened under the new ownership of Arctic Kingdom Expeditions, a pioneer in Arctic and Expedition touring in Canada’s North.

The all-season luxury wilderness resort is located in the rugged wilderness of the Northwest Territories, around 100 kilometres southeast of Yellowknife, and can be reached by bush-plane within 30 minutes from Yellowknife. Guests land on Blachford Lake, virtually right outside the front door – in the summer on floats, in winter on skis. Many miles from roads, or national suppliers of electricity and water, the lodge nonetheless provides many of the benefits of a luxury hotel, with the priceless addition of a pristine wilderness environment, unpolluted by artificial light or noise – the perfect setting for watching the Aurora Borealis.

The lodge's exclusive main building is uniquely situated on a rocky hill on the lake shore and offers a wonderful view of the scenic landscape and the Northern Lights. Visitors can stay overnight in the five guest rooms of the main lodge. Blachford Lake Lodge also boasts 5 cabins on site as guest accommodations. All hand crafted, these cabins give guests a comfortable wilderness experience, with the amenities of the main lodge at their fingertips. The cabins are undergoing renovations in the summer of 2024, and will be starting out the fall Aurora season fully updated and refurbished.

Further guest amenities include free wireless internet, a hot tub, a sauna and an Aurora-watch wake-up service. During the day, exciting outdoor adventures await, depending on the season of the visit. Activities range from hiking, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, swimming or wildlife viewing in the summer, to snowshoeing, fat tire biking, cross country skiing, snowmobiling or ice fishing in the winter – and many more!

Blachford Lake Lodge aims to live sustainably and in an environmentally conscious way on the land, Chief Drygeese territory, the traditional land of Yellowknives Dene First Nation.

PETERSON'S POINT LAKE LODGE

Peterson's Point Lake Lodge is located around 350 km north of Yellowknife on the edge of the Barrenlands and the Arctic Circle in the middle of the Canadian tundra. It is the northernmost lodge in the Northwest Territories and can only be reached by floatplane. Point Lake is in the middle of a vast terrain of countless lakes and rivers and is part of the legendary Coppermine River System, which stretches for more than 300 km to the Arctic Ocean.

The five rustic guest cabins at Peterson's Point Lake Lodge accommodate 2-4 people each and have a heater, electrical outlets, solar light and a private patio with a fantastic view over Point Lake. Only some cabins have a private toilet, for all other guests there are privies centrally located behind the cabins. A maximum of 10 guests can stay at the lodge at any one time, which always creates a family atmosphere.

Along with experienced fishing guides, guests are out on Point Lake in motorboats during the day. The region's waters are home to record-breaking lake trout, which demand a great deal of strength and stamina from the anglers. The fish caught are only kept for personal consumption – the legendary shore lunches or typical Northern dinners are unforgettable! If you need a break from fishing, you can go on short, guided hikes around the lodge or grab a paddle – great photo opportunities are guaranteed! After all, huge groups of caribou migrate through the region at certain times of the year and grizzly bears, tundra swans and peregrine falcons also call the region home. In the evening, you can warm up in the Finnish sauna or in the lounge with a drink by the fireplace and read the stories of the polar explorers Samuel Hearne and Sr. John Franklin, who once travelled through this region. Later in the evening, with a bit of luck, the Aurora will dance in the sky.
