Inside Manitoba: Big Moments, Bold Nature & New Experiences

Dear Canada friend,

This May, Manitoba and its capital city Winnipeg proudly hosted Rendez-vous Canada (RVC), welcoming over 1,500 international tourism professionals from around the world. Buyers explored the region through a range of FAM tours, showcasing Manitoba’s rich culture, vibrant cities, and extraordinary nature – from polar bear country to prairie charm. It was a fantastic opportunity to share Manitoba’s unique stories, warm hospitality, and unforgettable experiences with the world.

While the natural beauty of Manitoba still shines bright, wildfires are presently affecting certain areas in the north of the province. Our hearts go out to the people and communities impacted.

Most popular tourism destinations and travel routes remain accessible and safe. We advise travellers to stay informed through official sources for the latest updates on fires, fire bans, and road closures:

With attentiveness and reliable information, travellers can continue to explore Manitoba safely and respectfully - now and in the future.

New with Churchill Wild:
Summer Cloud Wolves of the
Kaska Coast Expedition

Churchill Wild announced the launch of their new Summer Cloud Wolves of the Kaska Coast Expedition, which will run from July 24 to August 2, 2026 at their  Nanuk Polar Bear Lodge.

In the vast wilderness of Manitoba’s Kaska Coast, where the boreal forest meets the tidal flats of Hudson Bay, and the sweeping tundra landscapes beckon, this new summer expedition will be led by wolf expert and National Geographic photographer Jad Davenport. Wildlife enthusiasts will have the rare opportunity to witness wolf pups in their earliest months of life as they learn the ways of the pack at “rendezvous sites” in one of North America’s most pristine wilderness areas. This territory is uninhabited and more than 50 times larger than Yellowstone National Park.

The summer Cloud Wolves expedition is an addition to Churchill Wild’s spring and fall wolf programs, which have been running since 2021. These expeditions have earned Churchill Wild an international reputation among wildlife photographers and wolf enthusiasts for providing unprecedented, ethical encounters with wild, unhabituated wolves.

New with Borealis Beading:
PerLODGE Tiny House Accommodation

Borealis Beading in Ste Geneviève, just 45 minutes East of Winnipeg is owned and operated by Melanie Gamache, a Manitoba Métis Francophone beadwork artisan offering different learning programs:

PERLAGE: A Métis Voyage includes four different activities: a scouting walk, beading activity, story sharing and a delicious Métis charcuterie board.

Métis Connections includes an interactive presentation, sharing stories of connections between the bison, Métis sash, red river cart, Métis beadwork and familiar names given to the Métis people in history. This is followed by a hands-on Métis art experience with Bannock and tea.

Melanie now opened her PerLODGE for overnight stays. This tiny house accommodation is nestled on her property amidst the aspen oak forest and provides all the necessities to enjoy a quiet stay away from the hustle of everyday life. Oak Hammock Marsh:
Reopening of the Wetland Discovery Centre

Following major renovations, the Wetland Discovery Centre at Oak Hammock Marsh reopened in May 2025 – now bigger, smarter, and more immersive than ever.

Just 30 minutes north of Winnipeg, the newly enhanced centre offers a hands-on journey into one of the most important – and often overlooked – ecosystems on the planet. Through interactive exhibits, family-friendly activities, and guided experiences, visitors gain a deeper understanding of the crucial role wetlands play in biodiversity, flood prevention, carbon storage, and water health.

Set within a globally recognised wetland, Oak Hammock Marsh is one of North America’s top birding destinations. Spread over 14 square miles, it’s home to more than 300 bird species, along with mammals, amphibians and other wildlife. Nearly 19 miles of trails, scenic viewing platforms, and expert-led programmes allow for year-round exploration – whether you're spotting migrating geese, learning about Indigenous plant species, or simply enjoying the peace of the prairie landscape. For families, nature lovers, and eco-conscious travellers, Oak Hammock Marsh offers a meaningful connection to Canada’s wild heart – and a gentle reminder of the value of protecting what matters.

New at FortWhyte Alive:
Buffalo Crossing

Just a short drive from downtown Winnipeg, FortWhyte Alive is a reclaimed natural haven where wildlife, recreation, and environmental education come together. This unique urban nature reserve offers scenic walking trails through prairie grasslands and aspen forests, past tranquil lakes and across boardwalks that bring visitors close to the wetlands. For a fresh perspective, guests can rent bicycles or canoes to explore the area at their own pace. A true highlight is the guided bison safari, offering the chance to view a herd of iconic prairie bison in their natural habitat. At its heart, FortWhyte Alive is all about reconnecting people with the natural world.

In April 2025, FortWhyte Alive unveiled its newest addition: Buffalo Crossing. This striking multi-purpose building sets a new benchmark in sustainable design. Built to the highest standards of climate-resilient architecture, it is both Manitoba’s first certified Commercial Passive House and its first Zero Carbon Certified building. More than just an architectural achievement, Buffalo Crossing enhances FortWhyte Alive’s mission by serving as a hub for community, education, and nature-based experiences.
