New accommodation in Churchill:
Blueberry Inn by Churchill Wild

In October 2024, a new accommodation option opened, providing guests with another lodging option in Churchill. Located in the heart of the small town on the shores of Hudson Bay, the local operator Churchill Wild has opened the Blueberry Inn. The cozy elegance of the inn reflects the inviting, luxurious atmosphere of Churchill Wild’s remote fly-in eco-lodges, where guests embark on walking safaris to experience the fascinating wildlife of the subarctic.

The stylishly furnished Blueberry Inn offers 15 guest rooms with various bed configurations, including a fully accessible room. Each room is equipped with a private bathroom with a shower, ensuring the highest level of comfort. A spacious, light-filled lounge of approximately 1,400 square feet, along with an inviting breakfast bar, creates a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. In the morning, guests can enjoy a continental breakfast.

A special highlight of the inn is its walls, which bring the history of Churchill Wild to life. The impressive "History Wall" traces the journey of the founding family, who migrated from Iceland to Churchill in 1876, and documents Churchill Wild’s rise to becoming one of the leading providers of polar bear safaris along the Hudson Bay coast.

New with Wild Loon Adventure Company:
Canoe expedition on the Hayes River to historic York Factory

Wild Loon Adventure Company specializes in providing unique and immersive outdoor and paddling experiences in Manitoba. Their new Hayes River Canoe Expedition offers paddlers the chance to explore the historically significant Hayes River, a Canadian Heritage River known for its scenic beauty and Indigenous heritage. It has been a major transportation, economic, and communication route for long and still reflects the deep connection between Indigenous peoples and the landscape.

Starting in Thompson, the trip begins with a scenic flight to Bunibonibee (Oxford House) Cree Nation, followed by a paddle along the fur trade route to York Factory. Participants will navigate expansive lakes, whitewater rapids, and witness breathtaking landscapes, from boreal forests through the Canadian Shield into the Hudson Bay Lowlands. Opportunities for wildlife sightings abound – this river is home to moose, otters, eagles, black bears, polar bears, wolves, and more.

The adventure includes a visit to the historic York Factory, a former settlement and trading post for the Hudson’s Bay Company, where guests can tour the site, explore artifacts, and brand a wooden paddle with the York Factory crest. The trip concludes with a jet boat ride to Gillam, and a scenic train journey back to Thompson.

Guided by experienced professionals, this expedition offers a rich combination of safe outdoor adventure and cultural immersion. This 14-day trip is offered from August 2-15, 2025, and includes transportation from Thompson and back, all meals, canoeing and camping equipment, as well as certified guides (3:1 ratio).
