NORTHWEST TERRITORIES –
A DESTINATION LIKE NO OTHER!

Dear Canada friend,

The Northwest Territories are a destination like no other! And they know how to do winter, that’s for sure! Here, the (ice-)cold season can last up to 6 months - sometimes even longer. But that certainly is no reason for unhappiness. Winter is cool in the NWT, in the truest sense of the word! Not only that the temperatures can drop to a frosty -40° Celsius. Many extraordinary experiences are waiting for curious visitors who want to explore the magical winter in Canada's North. First of all, there are the enchanting Northern Lights, dancing more beautifully than in hardly any other place in the world. Driving the ice roads, excursions by snowmobile, dog sled tours and other adventures give fascinating peeks into a winter wonderland that seems to be out of this world. But the next summer is just around the corner, waiting with amazing road trips, awe-inspring scenery, close-up wildlife viewing and cozy accommodations. The Northwest Territories have it all!

48 HOURS IN YELLOWKNIFE

In the Northwest Territories, you won't find the typical North American metropolis. With a population of just 19,600, the tranquil yet dynamic capital Yellowknife is the largest city in the region. Nevertheless, it has exciting stories to tell! Even today, a hint of gold rush atmosphere still wafts through its historic Old Town. And a colorful mix of residents from over 90 nations makes Yellowknife an energetic and exciting place to be. A variety of festivals celebrate the cultures of different peoples, and there are plenty of culinary delights! At the same time, Yellowknife’s perfect location on the northern tip of Great Slave Lake makes it an ideal base for outdoor adventures and water activities.
