RCMP Heritage CentreCanada's only basic training academy for the next generation of Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officers is located in Regina. More than 1,000 cadets are trained here each year. Visitors can take a guided tour of the training camp or delve into the history of the Mounties at the adjacent RCMP Heritage Centre Remai ModernRemai Modern enjoys a prominent location on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River and has been an integral part of Saskatoon's city skyline since it opened in 2017. In addition to regularly changing traveling exhibitions, it houses the more than 7,700 exhibits from the Mendel Art Gallery, which closed in 2015, as well as the world's most extensive collection of linocuts and ceramic objects by the great Pablo Picasso. Remai Modern is considered the most innovative contemporary art museum in North America. Tunnels of Moose JawIn the small town of Moose Jaw, located along the Trans Canada Highway, visitors can travel back in time in the famous Tunnels of Moose Jaw. It is said that it was here where Al Capone engaged in excessive alcohol smuggling during the Prohibition era. Thanks to the excellent performance of the tour guides, the gangster feeling from the 1920s comes alive on the interactive tour Chicago Connection through the catacombs and corridors under the city streets. The tour The Passage to Fortune, on the other hand, tells the story of early Chinese immigrants to Canada. The Bunker 24 tour catapults visitors to the year 1958 during the Cold War era and tells of Canada's development after the Great Depression and World War II. All tours take about 50 minutes and can be booked online. Wanuskewin Heritage ParkWanuskewin Heritage Park is located on the South Saskatchewan River north of Saskatoon. For more than 6,400 years, Indigenous peoples of the Northern Plains gathered at this site to hunt. The park is the longest operating archaeological site in Canada, a National Historic Site, and awaiting designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wheatland Express Excursion Train"Made in Saskatchewan" that's the motto of the Wheatland Express Excursion Train, running between Cudworth and Wakaw, about an hour's drive northeast of Saskatoon. Each trip has a specific theme. Special gangster romance, for instance, comes with a train robbery on "The Great Prairie Train Heist." Often, talented artists from the region are on board and there are tours available for children. The train offers a dining car that sells small snacks and drinks during the two- to three-hour ride through the wheat and canola fields in the heart of the Canadian prairies.
