Tunnels of Moose Jaw

In the small town of Moose Jaw, located along the Trans Canada Highway, visitors can travel back in time in the famous Tunnels of Moose Jaw. It is said that it was here where Al Capone engaged in excessive alcohol smuggling during the Prohibition era. Thanks to the excellent performance of the tour guides, the gangster feeling from the 1920s comes alive on the interactive tour Chicago Connection through the catacombs and corridors under the city streets. The tour The Passage to Fortune, on the other hand, tells the story of early Chinese immigrants to Canada. The Bunker 24 tour catapults visitors to the year 1958 during the Cold War era and tells of Canada's development after the Great Depression and World War II. All tours take about 50 minutes and can be booked online.

Wanuskewin Heritage Park

Wanuskewin Heritage Park is located on the South Saskatchewan River north of Saskatoon. For more than 6,400 years, Indigenous peoples of the Northern Plains gathered at this site to hunt. The park is the longest operating archaeological site in Canada, a National Historic Site, and awaiting designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Visitors learn about the cultural importance of bison to the region and the role the reintroduced herd played most recently in a significant archaeological find. By wallowing in the dust, the animals uncovered a boulder with petroglyphs some 1,200 years old, including the prehistoric tool used to carve them into the stone.

The restaurant at Wanuskewin Heritage Park is one of the best Indigenous restaurants in Canada. A special highlight are the popular Han Wi Dinners, served on full moon summer nights under the open sky, followed by story-telling at the campfire.

Wheatland Express Excursion Train

"Made in Saskatchewan" – that's the motto of the Wheatland Express Excursion Train, running between Cudworth and Wakaw, about an hour's drive northeast of Saskatoon. Each trip has a specific theme. Special gangster romance, for instance, comes with a train robbery on "The Great Prairie Train Heist." Often, talented artists from the region are on board and there are tours available for children. The train offers a dining car that sells small snacks and drinks during the two- to three-hour ride through the wheat and canola fields in the heart of the Canadian prairies.

Following the train ride, dinner & show programs feature a locally inspired dinner at the Cudworth Community Hall, where guests are treated to culinary delights before the evening concludes with a theatre performance featuring plenty of local characters.
